On the morning of February 6, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria. This is the strongest earthquake ever recorded in Turkey since 1939. It was followed by a second earthquake of magnitude 7.5 on the same day. And more than 1,200 aftershocks.

Thousands of dead, wounded, and victims were killed due to the housing collapses that occurred, and the number is increasing. Cities were completely wiped out and destruction spread everywhere, as the Syrian Civil Defense declared northwestern Syria a disaster area due to earthquakes. Our people in the north of Syria described these days as more difficult than 10 years of war and can hardly be compared to them. great calamity befell us, But out of pain comes hope! Humanitarian needs in Syria are at an all-time high as the country enters its twelfth year of conflict in 2023. And in the northwest alone, 4.1 million people depend on humanitarian aid (95% of the region’s population). The effects of the earthquakes only exacerbate their needs during an outbreak of cholera during the coldest part of the year.
